Falmouth Builders has completed a substantial house renovation in Roskrow, near Penryn, turning an existing property into a stronger, warmer and more usable family home. This was not a cosmetic tidy-up. It was a full first-floor rebuild, new roof, new envelope and a remodel of the living spaces, carried out locally by a Falmouth building team that knows Cornish weather and Cornish houses.
The first job on this house renovation in Roskrow was to strip the existing roof. With the old covering and structure removed, we fabricated a first-floor timber frame on site. Building the frame on site keeps control of the fit, the levels and the detailing, which matters on a live renovation rather than a clean new plot. Once the first floor was up, a new trussed roof went on, finished in new slate. That combination — on-site timber frame, new trusses and a proper slate roof — gives the house the extra storey it needed without looking bolted on.
Around the new first-floor elevations we wrapped Millboard cladding. It is a durable, low-maintenance finish that sits well against Cornish light and rain, and it gives the added storey a clean, contemporary line. Existing windows and doors were taken out and replaced with new aluminium units throughout. Aluminium is tight, long-lasting and better suited to this exposed corner of Cornwall than tired timber frames that have already done their years.
The property has also been externally insulated and rendered. Combined with the new first-floor structure, new slate roof and aluminium openings, the house now has a complete new weather envelope rather than a patchwork of old and new.
Outside, landscaping is under way. A wrap-around composite decking area is being built from the kitchen and dining space so the living rooms open straight onto usable outdoor ground. Composite decking is the right call here: it handles wet Cornish winters, needs little upkeep, and ties the remodelled interior to the garden without rotting timber underfoot.
Internally the house has been remodelled. Layouts have been opened and reworked so the extra first-floor space and the new kitchen–dining connection to the deck actually work as a home, not just as extra square metres. Interior photographs will follow once the last finishes are in.
